Ever since I can remember I’ve been fascinated with cameras. My parents used to yell at me for “wasting” their film. Little did I know I was making art at such a young age.
When I was in High School, photography became more a part of my life. I was making photographs all the time. I composed landscapes, portraits, and a lot of still life.
Even after High School, photography remained just a hobby of mine. I was majored in Business Administration at my local college when I was approached to photograph a wedding. I did so gladly and realized then that photography was so much more to me than a hobby. It was magical to be able to freeze a moment of time and to preserve it for years to come. I finished the semester of my business classes, but the following semester I changed majors to Photographic Technology and I haven’t looked back.
This educational journey has been a work in progress and I have learned so much about photography and even more about myself. I especially enjoy the traditional method of photography using film and working in the darkroom. I love getting lost in the process of making a gelatin silver print.
I graduated in July and have accomplished an important personal goal. I will have taken classes in photojournalism, commercial photography and portraiture. After graduation I plan to transfer to a four year college and earn my Masters in Fine Arts. This journey’s been an enjoyable challenge so far. I look forward to making many more memories with this little camera of mine.
